I'm a postdoc in English at the University of California, Berkeley, where I also did my Ph.D. I'm also a managing editor of Arcade, a web project designed to integrate the best of traditional scholarship practices with the expanded possibilities of a Web 2.0 media environment. My research focuses on American literature 1880-1950 and the concept of "experiment" in the literature and sciences of the period. I draw substantially on the history and philosophy of science, especially on "boundary studies" (studies of attempts to delimit science) and on the epistemology of self-effacement (modest witnesses, impersonality, etc.). Related interests include feminist theory, childhood studies, and visual culture. I have an undergrad background in math and have even been known to code under duress.
